The DresserThis image is of an old eroded dresser that I found in my garage. I chose to add a black and white filter because it made the different textures stand out even more so than they had in color. The black and white effect also helped to highlight the strong contrast between the white of the dresser and the darkness of the shadows inside the inner corners. The photo shows a great amount of texture from the cracks in the corner, the rust on the nails & metal in the bottom left, and the bumps in the plaster. To really show off all of these textures I chose to take the photo really up close to capture all of the details. Aside from textures, the photo also contains some movement and leading lines, because the different lines and shapes all move in directions going towards the top right corner. The angle I took the photo from also added a lot more line and shape to the photo because the different pieces make multiple squares and have sharp 90 degree lines. I think this is artistically interesting because not only does it have lots of photographic elements in it, a person looking at it wouldn't necessarily know that it was a dresser right away.

WiresThis photo is of 2 wires that I found hanging in the hallway outside of the classroom. There are strong lines in this photo from the twisting of the wires. There is also shape in the way that they twist into each other and bend. There's positive and negative space between the colorful wires and the strong white background. There is texture in the rustiness of the wires. I chose to keep this photo in color because it added more contrast and a lot more interest. For my point of view I chose to take this shot very straight on and up close so that you could see the details in the wires and also so that you would have a hard time figuring out what the photo really was. I think this shot is very artistically interesting because it's such a simple photo but yet it's still kind of complex. Although it is only a photo of wires many compositional elements and technical considerations are present.

The GateThis shot is of a gate that I found outside of a mansion in Newport, Rhode Island. When I saw this gate I knew I had to take a photo of it for line and shape. I angled it in a way that it would look like it was slanting down while looking upwards. It added a lot of depth and an interesting point of view. When I brought this photo up in photoshop I immediately made it black and white. The original coloring of the photo made it too distracting and took away from the focus on the gate and put more focus on the bright green trees in the backdrop. It also added contrast and positive/negative space between the darkness of the gate to the bright white of the sky. There's repetition in the lines on the gate; they just seem to keep going on and on over and over again. The top line of the gate is a strong leading line that brings your eye to the bottom right of the photo. Overall I think this was just a very artistically strong photo.

Landscape SeascapeThis photo was also taken in Newport, Rhode Island. The natural area was part of an island where I was taking a lot of shots and happened to get this one. I took this photo from farther away so that you got the overview of the entire scene and not just a small part of it. There are many patterns and textures in this photo. The grass looks very harsh and hay-like and it's repetitive throughout the entire bottom of the shot. The leaves on the tree look very fluffy and light. The water also has texture in the small waves that you can somewhat see in the photo. I tried to follow the rule of thirds in this photo by separating it into 3 different sections: grass, water, and sky. I also wanted to center the tree to the left so that it wasn't dead center. I chose to keep this photo in color because it really brought out the blues in the water, the yellow/browns in the grass, and the green in the tree.

Colored Bottles In this shot, there are 3 colored bottles positioned at different depths. It has a foreground, mid-ground, and a background. The foreground red bottle is a bit out of focus while the background of cards and the other bottles are in full focus. To create this effect, I changed had the aperture settings on the camera. For this shot, I used an f stop of f/10 and focused the blur towards the front versus the back. This photo has some texture from the liquid in the bottle. It adds interest to it. There is repetition in having multiple bottles and multiple cards. There is a ton of shape in this photo. The cards are arranged in triangles and the bottles all have triangle shaped caps, so triangles are a repetitive shape in the photo. I think the cards also serve as frames for the bottles, especially the green one because it's inside. It helps show the 3 separate bottles each in 3 different sections and the cards serve as that focal point comparison. I chose to keep this in color because I thought the colors added to the photo, the interest, and the contrast. This photo was artistically interesting because it's very bright and cheerful due to the wide arrange of colors.

Ferris WheelThis shot of a ferris wheel was taken at Canobie Lake Park. The ferris wheel itself was continuously changing colors from reds, blues, pinks, purples, and every other color possible. I wanted to capture the various color changes that the ferris wheel went through, so I turned the shutter speed down really slow to about 6 seconds in order to capture all the colors as they changed. When I went to take the photo, to further capture the light, I dragged the camera upwards to make it look like the colors were moving upwards. It lead to a really striking effect that showcased the blues, reds, yellow, and white colors. There's is shape in this image, such as the big circle of the ferris wheel and the triangles inside of it. There is contrast and positive/negative shape between the sharp black background and the colorful lights. In this shot I wasn't really able to change the depth or my point of view due to the security bars that were in front of the ferris wheel. This shot is very unusual and captivating.
